Rebound of Whatcom County is a grass roots organization that operates an 8-week summer program for emotionally and behaviorally challenged kids who aren't able to participate in a regular camp experience. Beyond the 8-week camp, Rebound operates other programs designed to mentor and tutor the same children throughout the school year to provide personal mentoring relationships with each child. Most of the children that Rebound serves are coming from poverty-stricken families. Anne is a volunteer with Rebound and has seen first hand the dire conditions that some of these children are living in - she has given rides to children so that they may attend Rebound programming. When we leave Whitehorse for the beginning of the race our boat faces the crowd with "Foolish & Feeble" on the left side of the boat. If we make it to Dawson, the other side of the boat that has "Steady & Sane" will face the crowd. 

 

 

Starting June 24th, Bob McBeath and I will be entering the Yukon River Quest, a 3-day wilderness adventure paddling marathon on the Yukon River in Canada's Yukon Territoy. The 460-mile race begins in White Horse and ends in Dawson - although it is a challenging endeavor it is for a worthwhile cause.
